Julia Mathis erupted for an MIAA-leading five goals in her first two matches of the year, which included the lone hat trick by any conference player so far this season. Her breakout effort led Northeastern State to a pair of shutout victories to kickoff the new campaign. The junior entered this season with just eight goals on her career resume. This was also the first time in her career that she scored more than once in any match, and the first time in her career that she scored goals in back-to-back matches.
