TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist on Senior Night Tuesday at DeLoache Field.
The RiverHawks (10-4-1) outshot the Tigers (9-6-0) 28-8, and the home side hit the double-digit win mark for the second straight year.
The five seniors were honored at halftime, and those were
Ashley De La Rosa,
Sibonet Quinones,
Amanda Sircy,
Rachel Sordahl and
Hisa Turner.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the opening 40 minutes, but OBU struck first when Carrie Lieblong scored off a corner from Lauren Hatch. Lieblong got her head to the ball and it would trickle past the goal line before the RiverHawks could clear.
NSU would answer back just 30 seconds later when freshman forward
Lindsey Latta put away her fifth goal of the season following a pass from freshman midfielder
McKenzie Musella.
Junior forward
Jennifer Clark scored the game-winning goal in the 56th minute when a through ball from Latta sent her on a run into the box. Clark found daylight and beat the keeper on the near left post.
Quinones scored an insurance marker in the 75th minute off a tic-tac-toe inside the 18-yard box. Junior midfielders
Kelsey Sheldon and
Kaili Endres connected in the area, and Quinones sent a chip shot over the keeper for her second tally of the season.
Junior goalkeeper
Maggie Kloza (6-3-1) earned the win following a two-save effort. Shelby Shephard (9-6-0) saved 10 shots for the Tigers but took the loss after allowing all three goals.
The RiverHawks still have an outshot shot at hosting an opening-round tournament game in the MIAA Championship. Their path will be decided following their two-match road swing this weekend. NSU will first head to Emporia, Kan., for a 4 p.m. match Oct. 26 with Emporia State. The team will then close out the regular season at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 in Topeka, Kan., against Washburn.
