Box Score ST. JOSESH, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team defeated Missouri Western State 3-1 on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Lizzie Cudjoe scored the game winning goal and her fourth goal of the season in the 45th minute.
The RiverHawks improve to 7-2-0 and 3-2-0 in the MIAA. The Griffons drop to 3-6-0 and 1-4-0 in the conference.
The match was even for the first 38 minutes until junior midfielder
Kelsey Sheldon scored for
NSU on a penalty kick in the 39th minute on the left side. Cudjoe scored right at the first half whistle in the 45th minute to pull Northeastern State ahead 2-0.
The second half set up the Griffons Sydney Andrews for a penalty kick in the 48th minute to score on junior goalkeeper
Maggie Kloza and put MWSU on the board. The RiverHawks never backed down with a shot scored straight down the middle from junior forward
Emily Voges on an assist from Cudjoe in the 51st minute for the final score of NSU 3, MWSU 1.
Kloza earned the win improving her record to 4-1-0 on the year, she had just one save and one goal allowed against MWSU. Rayelin Garcia in her first career start for the Griffons made six saves and allowed three goals. Garcia suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1-0 on the year.
The RiverHawks will return to DeLoache Field in Tahlequah, Okla. and face two MIAA competitors for Homecoming week at NSU. Northeastern State will host Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m. Friday, October 5th and Fort Hays State at 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 7th.
