TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team defeated Central Oklahoma 2-0 Friday night at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks (12-3-0, 6-3-0 MIAA) earned their first win over the Bronchos (6-9-1, 3-5-1 MIAA) since 1999, having posted a 0-13-1 record against their rivals over the past 14 seasons. The win also clinched a spot in the MIAA Championship for NSU, while UCO fell to ninth in the standings. The top eight qualify for the season-ending tournament. Northeastern State currently sits in third place in the league table at 18 points, one point behind Washburn and two points ahead of Lindenwood.

The game-winning goal came in the 60th minute when freshman forward Anastasia Robinson scored her first goal of the season. She collected a pass from senior midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe along the right side and finished strong. Cudjoe was able to find her teammate after weaving through the Broncho defense.

Robinson put the game out of reach in the final minute on a counter attack. The UCO goalie was out of her net as the road side pushed to equalize, and Robinson was able to chip her from 30 yards out. Senior forward Emily Voges was credited the assist.

The goals were the first two of Robinson's career.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff (12-3-0) played the full 90-minute match and made three saves. She tabbed her school-record seventh shutout of the season.

Northeastern State outshot Central Oklahoma 18-11, and the home side also led in corner kicks by a 4-0 margin.

The RiverHawks will return to action Monday to face non-conference opponent Southern Nazarene at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at DeLoache Field.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH CHASE WOOTEN
"To be fair, we were a little bit nervous going into the game. We felt good about our chance, but we knew it was going to be tough. They had a couple of good chances to score, but they didn't get their goals. I thought we missed some chances in the first half and couldn't put them away. We told them at halftime to keep the ball low on finishes and give us a chance. We wanted to make sure we were putting shots on frame. I thought we ball-won like champs in the back. We really showed a lot of heart tonight. Anastasia scoring those goals was such a great moment for her. We're pleased with the result, and it puts us in a little bit more of a comfortable position as we head into the last week of the regular season."
