TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team defeated Missouri Western State 1-0 Sunday at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks (8-2-0, 2-2-0 MIAA) possessed the ball for much of the first half, however the Griffons (2-8-1, 0-4-0 MIAA) would keep NSU at bay and keep the score at 0-0 at the half.

NSU played the ball back and forth with MWSU, outshooting the Griffons 23-7.

It was not until the 78th minute when senior midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe was awarded a penalty kick that she would tuck neatly into the lower right portion of the net.

The RiverHawks maintained their 1-0 lead and ended the match defeating MWSU 1-0.

"We got lucky with the penalty shot today," NSU Coach Chase Wooten said. "We continue to have many chances to put the ball away, however we haven't been able to capitalize on that yet.

We're happy with the two shutouts this weekend, but we know we still have a lot of work to do."

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff (8-2) played a full 90 minutes and earned her second-straight clean sheet and fourth of the season. She finished with three saves.

The RiverHawks will travel to Nebraska-Kearney for an afternoon match to begin at 2 p.m. October 11 at Ron and Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field in Kearney, Neb.
