TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The Northeastern State women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Emporia State in the MIAA Championship quarterfinals Tuesday night at DeLoache Field.

ESU took an early lead in the 21st minute with a shot from inside the box on the right from Jordan Foutch. The Hornets struck again in the 44th minute when Mallory Walden flicked a long free kick into the back of the net and the road side took a 2-0 halftime lead.

Emporia State clinched the 3-0 win in the 61st minute after a score on a corner kick from McKenzie Koch. Northeastern State saw many scoring chances in the box  but was unable to finish.

The RiverHawks (15-4-0), seeded No. 2 in the MIAA, outshot the No. 7 seed Hornets (9-7-3) 27-11 and also had the advantage in corner kicks 9-4. ESU advanced to the semifinals and will meet No. 3 seed Southwest Baptist in Olathe, Kan.

"I thought we worked our tails off and we were fairly unlucky," NSU Coach Chase Wooten said. "After the second goal we ended up chasing the game. We put a lot of pressure on by design in the second half and had a couple of sitters which we could not put away.

"It was kind of that way the whole night, but in the big picture of it all if we put away all of our chances it's a different game and we just couldn't do it, they got a reset corner off a four clear and they just put it back on frame and sure enough it went in for them to make it a 3-0 game. We still had 30 minutes to play and just couldn't throw it in and it just wasn't the night to be."

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff saw all 90 minutes of play, allowed three goals and made three saves. She recorded her fourth career loss.

Northeastern State will now be on the outside looking in for a potential NCAA Championship berth. The RiverHawks will sit back and await the announcement on the NCAA Selection Show, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11.
