FORT SMITH, Ark. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost a 58-48 decision to Harding University Saturday afternoon at Stubblefield Center at the UAFS Lady Lions Classic.

The RiverHawks fell to 0-2 on the season, while the Bisons stayed undefeated at 2-0.

Junior guard Chelsey Beathard led NSU with 11 points with the help of a 6-for-6 effort at the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Kate Bellamy and true freshman forward Che'Ron Lewis both added eight points.

Shana Holmes led HU with 13 points, while Montana Lewis had 11.

Northeastern State shot 26 percent (12-for-46) from the field and 20 percent (4-for-20) from downtown. The Bisons shot 42 percent (21-for-50) from the field and 35 percent (8-for-23) from downtown. NSU was able to keep the game close thanks in large part to converting 12 more free throws.

The RiverHawks led for the majority of the first half, stretching their lead out to eight at one point. NSU saw its lead settle at 23-16 at the under-4 media timeout, but the Bisons used a 9-0 run in the final 2:17 to enter halftime with a 25-23 edge.

Harding used a 17-2 run early in the second half to take control of the game, and the RiverHawks were never able to get back into the contest.

This is the first 0-2 start to a season for NSU since the 2008-09 campaign, when the squad finished 16-12 overall and missed out on the NCAA Championship.

The RiverHawks will next be in action at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
