GOLDEN, Colo. – The No. 5-ranked Northeastern State men's soccer team recorded a 1-1 road draw with No. 6 Colorado School of Mines Sunday afternoon at CSM Soccer Stadium.

The RiverHawks (2-0-1) fell behind in the 83rd minute, but a goal from junior forward Juan Peralta with 1.8 seconds left on the clock lifted the visitors to the tie. Peralta came off the bench and played 43 minutes after missing the first two matches of the season.

"Having Juan back is huge for our team, and he showed why," NSU coach Rob Czlonka said of the leading goal scorer from a year ago. "He's a guy that makes a difference by putting the ball in the back of the net. There was a big lift with our team when he came into the contest. He is incredibly dangerous and has a knack for getting behind opposing defenses."

The two teams had to battle 56-degree temperatures and persistent rain showers throughout the afternoon.

Northeastern State outshot Colorado Mines 20-16, and the green and white also led in corner kicks, 9-5. Tannor Randle was the goal scorer for the Ore Diggers (2-0-1).

Sophomore goalkeeper Eric Shephard (2-0-1) conceded his first goal of the season, but made seven saves in 110 minutes. CSM's Colin Baker (2-0-1) saved 11 NSU shots and allowed one goal, also playing the full 110.

Junior forward Jordan Schmoker was credited with an assist on Peralta's equalizer. He now has four helpers this year and continues to lead the MIAA in that category.

"This was a good match between two top-10 teams. We both had chances to score, and I felt like our team played exceptionally well," Czlonka said. "Paul Samia and Crosby Lee were fantastic, and I thought everybody that got in today played very well."

The RiverHawks will now return to Tahlequah in preparation for its home opener. They will play host to Oklahoma Christian University at 7 p.m. Sept. 17.
