ST. CHARLES, Mo. –
The Northeastern State women's soccer team fell 2-1 to Lindenwood in double overtime Friday night at Hunter Stadium.

The RiverHawks (5-2, 0-2 MIAA) faced off against the Lions (6-2, 3-0 MIAA), who scored midway through the first half in the 22nd minute to lead NSU 1-0.

Senior midfielder Elizabeth Cudjoe struck a hard ball from sophomore midfielder Nea Sunila in the 43rd minute to equalize the score 1-1 forcing the teams into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime, Lindenwood gained possession and scored with 1:07 left before NSU could earn its first point in MIAA play this season. The RiverHawks had a corner kick right before the LU goal, and senior forward Emily Voges headed a ball that went right over the net. The Lions used a strong goal kick and a shot from about 40 yards out to earn the victory.

"Lindenwood is a much stronger team than what we faced last year," NSU coach Chase Wooten said. "I was unhappy with how we played against Missouri Southern, but tonight was just a great match. Both teams played really well on the turf, and they were just able to take advantage of an opportunity late."

The Lions outshot the RiverHawks 21-16 while NSU had the 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff saw all 109 minutes of play for NSU allowing two goals and making nine saves.

Northeastern State will remain on the road for a bout against nonconference opponent Ouachita Baptist set for 2 p.m. Sept. 29 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
