TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 overtime victory over Augustana College Friday night at DeLoache Field.

Both teams remained scoreless moving into the second half of the match. In the 58th minute senior forward Jennifer Clark blasted a cross over to sophomore forward Lindsey Latta, who punched in a goal to lead Augustana 1-0.

NSU (1-0) held the lead until the last 25 seconds of regulation play. Augustana (0-1) was awarded a corner kick in the final minute, and forward Maren Werth headed in the equalizer off a cross from midfielder Stephanie Stephens.

The RiverHawks fought to overcome the Vikings and in the 95th minute Clark scored on a pass from Latta to end the game 2-1 on a golden goal.

"I thought we came out and possessed the ball fine in the first half, overall I was pleased with how we played," NSU coach Chase Wooten said. "Now its two games in a row we have given up late goals and that's alarming. But I think that's a reflection of many young players who are still finding their way. We could have iced that game better and that's a moment for us to teach out of, but if you're looking at grit, hard work and playing together, we are getting better."

Northeastern State outshot Augustana College 18-7.

True freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff played all 94:35 and allowed one goal, while recording four saves.

The RiverHawks will be back in action at 1 p.m. Sept. 8 against Harding University at Stevens Field in Searcy, Ark.
