TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team lost to Lindenwood University 3-2 in double overtime Friday evening at DeLoache Field.

The RiverHawks (6-7, 3-6 MIAA) got on the board first in the 30th minute. Freshman midfielder Chelsea Martin sent a long cross into the box from the right where Anastasia Robinson was waiting. The sophomore forward headed home her first goal of the season. The Lady Lions (5-5-3, 4-3-2 MIAA) would tie the match in the 54th minute when Molly White slotted home a ball from Danielle Torry.

The RiverHawks regained the lead in the 62nd minute. Freshman forward Melissa Giles received a through ball from junior midfielder McKenzie Musella and put it low far post for her team-leading fifth marker of the season.

The Lady Lions earned a corner kick in the 79th minute and were able to equalize on the set piece. Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff saved an initial header by Becky Roberts. The rebound went right back to Roberts, and she was able to clean up the chance to push the scoreline to 2-2.

The two teams played a scoreless first overtime period. In the 104th minute, Lindenwood earned their fifth and final corner. Woodruff was again able to save the initial shot, but Kristin Brewer was there to bury the rebound and give the visitors the overtime victory.

NSU outshot Lindenwood 18-11 and also held a 3-1 edge in the first overtime period.

Woodruff (6-7) gave up a season-high three goals in 104 minutes. She also made four saves and took the loss.

The RiverHawks suffered their second double overtime loss of the season. This was also the second-straight year that Lindenwood earned a double OT victory over NSU. The Lady Lions picked up a 109th-minute golden goal in St. Charles, Missouri, last season.

Northeastern State will next host No. 9 Central Missouri at 1 p.m. Oct. 19 at DeLoache Field.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH CHASE WOOTEN
Opening Statement...
"We played a really complete game. There were only a few issues. I thought we were really sound defensively. We completed passes, which has been an issue for us. We created some scoring chances. I also thought we played well in the final third for the first time in a couple games, which was good and refreshing to see. We had some younger kids step up and do well."

On giving up two goals on corners...
"Restarts are a critical part of the game. Without having seen the film yet, I'm at a loss on how (Lindenwood is) banging out first balls and we're not able to clear them. At that point, you have to look around and ask what our passion level is for defensive clears. I think we have room for growth there. But if you can take a step back and get out of the emotional pressure cooker of what a 3-2 overtime loss feels like, there's a lot of positives here. There have been a few losses lately where there wasn't a whole lot of positives to draw from. I thought we did really well as a side tonight, I'm just disappointed that we couldn't organize ourselves better defensively on restarts."

On facing No. 9 Central Missouri on Sunday...
"Central Missouri is coming in with a really hot hand. We're at a point where we are going to have to find a way to defend what they're going to bring to the table in the final third. I think we match up OK, especially at home. We're pretty good on this turf. We're going to have to chase that game some, but from a standpoint of can we hang, I think we certainly can."
