NSU falls 63-59 to Rockhurst

Women’s basketball drops to 2-2 on the season, Walker leads with career-high 21 points

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost 63-59 to Rockhurst Friday evening on the first day of the Doubletree/Houlihans Thanksgiving Classic inside O'Reilly Event Center.
 
The RiverHawks dropped to 2-2 on the season, while the Hawks improved to 2-2.
 
NSU shot 41.4 percent (24-for-58) from the field, 33.3 percent (8-for-24) from 3-point territory and 75 percent (3-for-4) at the line. Rockhurst shot 35.4 percent (23-for-65) overall, 30.4 percent (7-for-23) from behind the arc and 83.3 percent (10-for-12) at the charity stripe.
 
Sophomore forward Mya Walker posted a game- and career-high 21 points. She was 8 of 13 from the field in 33 minutes. Senior guard Fontana Tate tallied 16 points and seven rebounds.
 
The Hawks had three lead in scoring with 11 points each, including Jill Myers, Mary Dineen and Kendall Hart. Darby Price registered her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
RU outrebounded NSU 50-26 and led in bench points 30-9.
 
The Hawks took an 11-9 advantage at the 13:32 mark of the first half and never trailed again. They led 31-24 at halftime and stretched their lead out to 17 points midway through the second half.
 
NSU used eight points on two possessions to battle back within single digits, but Rockhurst was able to hold on and secure the four-point victory.
 
Northeastern State will remain in Springfield to take on host and No. 7-ranked Drury at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 29.
