NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH CHASE WOOTENOpening statement…"I thought we battled hard in the second half. We looked a little timid in the beginning. The early goal was certainly the worst thing that we could have had happen to us. That was disappointing. We thought we had covered those long throws. It was difficult to shake that off. If we had timeouts in soccer, we definitely could have used one there. We did some good things in the second half after we had a chance to regroup everybody. We were able to eliminate their shot totals. We were pretty balanced in our attack, which was an improvement for us. But if you're going to play a team of this caliber, which we feel like we can compete with, then you have to show up for 90 minutes."
On the team reaching the postseason..."I thought that last weekend against UCO and SBU was the best soccer we have played all season. All the work from August to that point was starting to culminate and we were playing at a pretty high level. That part was positive, and it gave us confidence that we could compete in the conference tournament. One of the goals we had was getting back to this level and getting all of our new kids experience competing in a tournament atmosphere. From a standpoint of team experience, life experience and understanding speed of play, this was a good opportunity for us."
