KEARNEY, Neb. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team fell 83-59 at Nebraska-Kearney Thursday evening inside the Health & Sports Center.

The RiverHawks dropped to 3-12 on the season and 1-7 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, while the Lopers improved to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

NSU was led in scoring by junior Dakota Caudill, who tied his career high with 17 points. Junior guard Demone Harrison added 14 points and junior guard Trey Mohair chipped in 12. Due to recent injuries, the RiverHawks had six players play at least 30 minutes.

The team shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-for-9) from behind the 3-point line and 72.2 percent (13-for-18) at the charity stripe. UNK shot 62 percent (31-for-50) overall, 54.2 percent (13-for-24) from deep and 61.5 percent (8-for-13) at the line.

Connor Beranek led all scorers with 32 points. He was 8 of 12 from downtown. Trey Lansman and Ethan Brozek both added 12 points, and 12 different Lopers scored at least two points in the contest.

NSU will now travel to Hays, Kansas, to meet Fort Hays State at 4 p.m. Feb. 17.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH JASON TINSLEY
Initial statement...
"I thought that we played hard until the final whistle. I didn't think that we laid down or quit competing. We kept competing all game. We struggled to score and we struggled to keep UNK from scoring for whatever reason. We missed 29 shots in the paint and you've got to make those. We're getting it in there which is good, but we've got to make some of them. We've got to get some stops. We had six guys that played more than 30 minutes, which is brutal. But that is what we have to do right now. We just have to try to get ready for the next one and try to find a way to win."

On positives in the game...
"We chart hustle plays and Trey Mohair had 11 of the 31 hustle plays we had tonight. Those plays are skill plays, they are an effort thing. Trey plays hard the whole game and if we could get everyone to do that, it would be great. Trey didn't shoot it that well, but when a guy plays as hard as he plays, you can live with that shooting. He doesn't let other things effect his effort. Dakota Caudill played better tonight. He finished more shots tonight. He had a lot of chances to get a lot of old-fashioned 3-point plays, and he just needs to get stronger so he can finish through contact. He's getting better each game."
