RiverHawks win big on the road

Northeastern State defeats Southern Nazarene by a touchdown, Lee nets hat trick

BETHANY, Okla. - The No. 24-ranked Northeastern State men's soccer team defeated Southern Nazarene 7-0 Saturday evening at Wes Harmon Field.

The RiverHawks (8-4) put five on the board in the first 30 minutes of action to run away from the Crimson Storm (2-9). They also secured their fourth-consecutive victory.

Senior forward Crosby Lee recorded his first-career hat trick in just six minutes of play, potting goals in the 24th, 27th and 30th minutes. He now has 15 career tallies.

The match winner belonged to sophomore forward Justin Todd, who opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Lee scored the next two goals and sophomore midfielder Dominic Joseph-Jangoo took away Lee's opportunity for the natural hat trick when he found the back of the net in the 28th minute.

Lee finished off the three-goal spree two minutes later, and redshirt freshman forward Joseph Garcia added a sixth tally with two seconds remaining in the first half.

The RiverHawks played a man down for the entire second half but were able to kick the extra point when redshirt freshman Morgan Dizney scored the seventh and final goal of the match in the 70th minute.

Senior goalkeeper Eric Shephard (8-4) played the full 90 and earned his third clean sheet of the season after stopping both shots on goal. Colton Hadlock (2-4) played the first 30 minutes for Southern Nazarene and faced 11 shots on frame. He stopped six of the attempts, while the other five went into the back of the net. Jeff Ray finished the match and made one save, while conceding twice.

NSU outshot SNU 27-9, and both teams attempted five corners.

Chance Miller, Josue Morales, Brenden Bombardier, Garcia and Hayden Rasmussen all registered assists in the victory.

Lee's hat trick was the second for Northeastern State in as many weeks. Bombardier, a senior midfielder, scored three goals for the first time of his career against Harding on Oct. 1.

The RiverHawks and Crimson Storm will have a return match at 5 p.m. Oct. 29 in Tahlequah, which will be Senior Night for Northeastern State. Up next for NSU will be a 7 p.m. home contest Oct. 15 against MIAA foe Southwest Baptist.

NORTHEASTERN STATE COACH ROB CZLONKA
Statement...
"Obviously this was a good match for us. It's always exciting when you can score six goals in one half of play. It was unfortunate to have something like a red card influence the match the way it did. I'm not exactly sure if I saw the same thing as the refs, but they made the call and we had to play the rest of the way a man down."

On the play of the goalkeeper...
"Eric Shephard did a great job managing his goal, especially during the second half when we made it a point that we wanted to keep the shutout despite being a man down. We told the team that they needed to manage the game and I thought he did a great job showing leadership under that type of pressure."

On Crosby Lee...
"Crosby Lee was feeling very good today. He's looking to be fit and on form like he was before his injury. His goals were pretty incredible. It was good to see him enjoying himself and enjoying the game."
