RiverHawks fall to Lindenwood, 2-1

Mathis scores fourth goal of 2015, Northeastern State win streak halted by Lions

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Northeastern State women's soccer team lost 2-1 to Lindenwood Friday night at Hunter Stadium.

The RiverHawks fell to 10-3 on the season and 5-2 in the MIAA, while the Lions improved to 3-7-3 overall and 2-4-1 in the league.

Northeastern State was outshot 6-2 in the first half. None of the shots did more damage than a penalty shot goal scored by Danielle Torry in the 23rd minute of action. Lindenwood held onto a 1-0 lead going into the half.

NSU found a little more offense in the first half and was able to get off four shots. Sophomore midfielder Julia Mathis equalized in the 54th minute, but Becky Roberts was able to net the game winner in the 79th minute of play for the home side.

The RiverHawks were outshot 8-6, and both teams had three shots on goal. Northeastern State has been outshot now in in two of its three losses, but tonight's six shots were the fewest the RiverHawks have attempted in a match all season.

Junior goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff (10-3) made one save and allowed two goals. Jordan Gnolfo (2-6-2) picked up the win for Lindenwood.

NSU won't have a lot of time to dwell on the setback. The team plays again at 1 p.m. on Oct. 18 against No. 8-ranked Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Jennies are 12-1 this season and are at the top of the league table.
