Men’s Basketball squeaks past Rangers

Northeastern State defeats Northwestern Oklahoma State 92-90 in MIAA/GAC Challenge

DURANT, Okla. – The Northeastern State men's basketball team scored the final six points of the game to defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State 92-90 Saturday night inside Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
 
The RiverHawks (1-1) picked up their first win of the season, while the Rangers dropped to 0-2 on the year.
 
Three of NSU's bench players scored in double figures, led by senior forward Dakota Caudill's 18. Caudill also scored the final six points of the game, including the game winner with 22 seconds remaining. True freshman guard Tanner Mouse scored 13 points, and senior guard Trey Mohair chipped in 11. True freshman guard Peyton Pratt was the lone starter in double figures, as he finished with 12.
 
Northeastern State shot 49.2 percent (32-for-65) from the field, 39.1 percent (9-for-23) from distance and 63.3 percent (19-for-30) at the free-throw line. Northwestern Oklahoma State shot 57.8 percent (26-for-45) overall, 62.5 percent (5-for-8) from behind the arc and 75 percent (33-for-44) at the charity stripe.
 
Laakeem Henderson led all scorers with 27 points. Both Adrian Motley and T'aries Taylor scored 19 for NWOSU, and Motley added nine rebounds.
 
NSU was outrebounded 37-27, but led in assists 17-14 and had 10 fewer turnovers (27-17). The RiverHawks also led in points off turnovers (35-25) and points from the bench (56-15).
 
NSU kept the game tight in the early going and was able to play to a 23-23 tie at the 8:11 mark of the opening half. The Rangers broke out on a 21-4 run over the next five minutes to pull ahead 44-27. The quick-hitting RiverHawks offense went on an 18-2 run of their own to pull within one with 22 seconds left, and a triple at the end of the half gave NWOSU a 49-45 lead after 20 minutes of action.
 
The Rangers went ahead 83-70 with 4:40 to play, but Northeastern State closed on a 22-7 run to come from behind and claim the victory.
 
The green and white will next be in action at home. NSU is set to play host to Arkansas-Fort Smith at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 21 inside the NSU Event Center.
