WEATHERFORD, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost a 77-75 decision to Southwestern Oklahoma State Wednesday evening inside Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

The RiverHawks (4-7) have now lost seven of their last eight games after starting the season 3-0, while the Bulldogs (4-5) won their fourth game in their last five outings after beginning the campaign 0-4.

Despite the losing effort, NSU was able to set two school records in the final non-conference tilt of the season. The green and white finished 16-for-40 (40 percent) from behind the 3-point line. The RiverHawks broke the school record for most 3-point field goals made in a single game. True freshman guard
Cailyn Long was 7-for-16 from behind the arc. She broke the school's all-time mark for most 3-point field goal attempts in a single game and was one shy of tying the school's all-time mark for most made in a game.

Long was also 10-for-19 overall and finished with 27 points. The last time an NSU women's basketball player made at least 10 field-goal attempts was Feb. 27, 2012 (Taylor Lewis), and the last time a member of the team scored at least 27 points was Feb. 16, 2013 (Lewis).

Junior forward
Mary Jane Buschmann scored 20 points on 8-of-21 shooting. The last time an NSU women's basketball player took at least 20 shots in one game was on Feb. 28, 2009 (Alix Perkins). Senior guard

Sophomore guard
Alexis Hill failed to score in the game and was 0-for-7 from the field, but she was able to finish with four assists and a career-high 10 rebounds.

Overall, NSU shot 35.1 percent (27-for-77) from the field and 83.3 percent (5-for-6) at the free-throw line. SWOSU shot 41.2 percent (28-for-68) overall, 34.6 percent (9-for-26) from behind the 3-point line and 63.2 percent (12-for-19) at the free-throw line.

Jessica Penner made all nine of her shot attempts en route to a 19-point outing off the bench to lead the Bulldogs. Hailey Tucker added 17, while Hayden Priddy contributed 11 for the winning side. Korina Chapman only scored one point, but she pulled down 11 rebounds.

Northeastern State posted a season-low five turnovers, which was also the first time this season that the RiverHawks had fewer than 10 turnovers. NSU also tallied 20 assists, which tied the season-high set in the last game against Central Oklahoma.

SWOSU outrebounded NSU 47-41 and also led in bench points (40-30) and points off turnovers (7-5). The RiverHawks led in assists (20-19), fewer turnovers (5-7), and second-chance points (12-11).

Northeastern State is now set to begin the second half of the 2015-16 season. The RiverHawks will travel to the northwest part of Missouri for a pair of MIAA contests. NSU will first face Missouri Western State at 3 p.m. Jan. 2 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
