RiverHawks bats go quiet in Texas

Softball drops games to Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – The Northeastern State softball team lost a pair of games on the second day of the Texas A&M-Commerce Tournament Saturday evening at John Cain Family Field.

The RiverHawks (0-4) fell to Tarleton State 15-0 in five innings before losing to host team Texas A&M-Commerce 7-0.

NSU will next travel to Bentonville, Arkansas, to participate in the 8-State Classic hosted by the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The RiverHawks will first meet Drury Feb. 13 at 9 a.m.

Tarleton State 15, Northeastern State 0 (5 innings)
The TexAnns jumped out to a four run lead in the second inning. Tarleton State exploded for six additional runs in the fourth inning, before plating five more in the fifth inning.
 
The RiverHawks struggled to hit Tarleton State pitcher Alyssa Ringhausen (1-0), who got the win after allowing only two NSU hits in 5.0 innings.
 
Freshman Jessica Boone and junior Megan Ewton were the only RiverHawks to record hits.
 
Junior Delany Gray (0-1) was credited with the loss after allowing nine runs on nine hits in 3.0 innings of work. Junior Alex Files entered in the fourth inning and threw 2.0 innings, conceding six runs on seven hits.
 
Texas A&M-Commerce 7, Northeastern State 0
The Lions took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before plating a second run in the third inning on an error by the RiverHawks.
 
TAMU-Commerce tacked on three additional runs in the fourth frame to pull ahead of NSU 5-0. The Lions added two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the RiverHawks 7-0 in seven innings.
 
Freshman Bailey Applegate ripped a double in the seventh inning for her first career hit. Sophomore Ryan Martin, Boone and Ewton also recorded hits in the NSU loss.
 
Junior Kayce Wooldridge (0-1) threw 5.0 innings and conceded six runs (five earned) on nine hits. She took the loss while recording seven strike outs. Sophomore Krissy Crow threw 1.0 innings in relief, giving up one run on two hits. Selena Rima (3-0) earned the victory for the Lions, allowing four hits and striking out 11 in 7.0 innings.
