Box Score 2JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Northeastern State softball team tied an MIAA record for hits in a single game and swept Lincoln in a pair of MIAA games Sunday afternoon at LU Softball Field.
The RiverHawks (12-12, 4-4 MIAA) defeated Lincoln (1-16, 1-7 MIAA) 13-4 before collecting 24 hits in a 15-8 victory. The 24 hits tied the MIAA record for hits in a single game. The 28 runs on the day were the most scored by an NSU team in a doubleheader in 11 years. Â
Every member of the RiverHawks lineup had at least three hits on the day. Sophomore
Ryan Martin led the way, going 7-for-10 on the day, including a perfect 5-for-5 in the second game. Freshman
Jessica Boone (5-for-10), sophomore
Madison Boyd (5-for-11) and senior
Alli Eales (5-for-8) all collected five hits. Senior
Alyssa Aguilar was 4-for-8 while freshman
Paige Gann (3-for-9), freshman
Bailey Applegate (3-for-7), freshman
Kaleigh Hinkle (3-for-8) and junior
Megan Ewton (3-for-8) all had three hits.
Northeastern State will next host Washburn in a mid-week MIAA conference doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 1 p.m. March 17 at RiverHawks Park.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 13, LINCOLN 4Lincoln jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before the RiverHawks exploded with five runs of their own in the top of the second inning.
NSU pushed across an additional insurance run to take a 6-2 lead in the third inning on a Hinkle RBI single.
The Blue Tigers were able to get two runs back in the fourth inning, but once again the green and white responded the following inning. The RiverHawks led 8-4 after five innings after Boyd brought two across on a single to right field.
NSU added two additional runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh inning to push the final score to 13-4.
The RiverHawks finished the first game with 14 hits.
Krissy Crow (1-2) earned the victory for the RiverHawks after throwing 1.0 innings in relief. Junior
Alex Files threw the first 3.0 innings and conceded two runs on six hits. She struck out two and walked two.
Delaney Gray threw 0.1 innings, allowing two runs.
Laura Fleck threw the final 2.2 innings in the circle for NSU only allowing one hit and striking out one.
NORTHEASTERN STATE 15, LINCOLN 8Lincoln took a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game.
The RiverHawks closed the gap to 3-1 in the third inning when Gann hit a towering home run to left field. Â However, the Blue Tigers were able to get the run back in the bottom of the third.
NSU took the lead in the fourth inning when they batted through the order and scored five runs on six hits.
The RiverHawks had another huge inning in the fifth, scoring nine runs on eight hits to take a 15-4 lead.
The Blue Tigers were able to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, but senior
Laura Fleck shut out Lincoln in the final two innings and NSU finished the weekend 4-0.
Northeastern State tied the MIAA single game record for hits in a game with 24.Â
Junior
Kayce Wooldridge (6-5) earned the victory for the RiverHawks. She threw 4.0 innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits. Fleck earned her first save of the season. The senior threw three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.Â
