Box ScoreDURANT, Okla. – The Northeastern State baseball team picked up a 7-4 midweek nonconference victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon at the Ballpark in Durant.

The RiverHawks improved to 14-9 on the season, while the Savage Storm dropped to 10-14.

SEOSU opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, but NSU used three errors in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. The RiverHawks would never trail again.

Juniors
Gabriel Wurth and
Charles Sims both touched home in the top of the third to up NSU's lead to 4-1, and the visitors added a fifth in the top of the fifth when Sims was driven home by sophomore
Bryce Davenport.

The Savage Storm tacked on three runs in the home half of the sixth, but the RiverHawks would not allow the home team to get any closer. Sophomore
Jared Aschbrenner singled home Davenport in the eighth, and Davenport drove home Wurth in the ninth to complete the scoring.

Sims finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Davenport was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run. Wurth also scored twice.

Senior
Waylon Davis (2-1) collected the win on the mound after throwing the first four innings of a declared staff day. He allowed one run on two hits, while striking out four and walking two. Sophomore
Bobby Sehgal threw the next 2.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. Sophomore
Zack Hammock tossed 2.0 frames and only gave up one hit. Junior
Jake Kern collected his MIAA-leading eighth save of the season after throwing a perfect ninth. He is one off the national lead in that category.

Conner Koepp was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Savage Storm. Brandon Grimsley was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in and a run scored. SEOSU had just three other hits in the contest.

Mathew Benedict (0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits in the first 4.0 innings. Evan Sanders gave up two runs on just one hit in the next 3.1 frames, and Brady Colbert finished the game and conceded one run on three hits.

Northeastern State will now travel to Hays, Kansas, for a four-game MIAA series with Fort Hays State. First pitch of the series opener will be at 7 p.m. March 27.
