Game 2 Box ScoreJOPLIN, Mo. – The Northeastern State softball team split with Missouri Southern State University Sunday afternoon at Lea Kungle Field in the final games of the 2015 season.
The RiverHawks (21-30, 11-15 MIAA) won the first game 4-3 in eight innings before MSSU (13-37, 5-19 MIAA) took game two 4-2 to earn the split.
Madison Boyd led the way for the RiverHawks. The sophomore was 4-for-7 on the day with a home run and three RBI. Redshirt freshman
Paige Gann also hit a home run, her 12th of the year, which breaks the NSU single season record. Freshman

NORTHEASTERN STATE 4, MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE 3 (8 INNINGS) The Lions took the lead in the third inning on a RBI double by Michala Wood. MSSU went up 2-0 in the fifth inning when Kathryn Goins laid down a squeeze bunt to score Wood.
The RiverHawks were able to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning on runs batted in from Hinkle, junior
Megan Ewton and Boyd.
Missouri Southern tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Alana Hester hit a leadoff home run down the right field line.
In the top of the eighth, Gann hit her record setting home run to lead off the inning and give the RiverHawks the lead for good.
Junior pitcher
Kayce Wooldridge (12-12) earned the complete game victory for the RiverHawks. She gave up three runs on 10 hits in 8.0 innings pitched. She struck out five and walked just one.
MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE 4, NORTHEASTERN STATE 2The Lions went up 2-0 in the third inning when Michala Wood hit a double to left field, bringing around two to score.
NSU tied the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. After Boone led off with a single, Boyd hit her second home run of the season.
MSSU retook the lead in the fifth inning, scoring two runs on three hits while being aided by an NSU error.
Senior
Laura Fleck (5-6) took the loss in the circle. She gave up four runs (three earned) on nine hits in 6.0 innings pitched.
