RiverHawks fall to ranked Tigers, 68-47

Hill nets team-best 12 points, Northeastern State drops to 5-11 on the year

HAYS, Kan. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost to No. 3 Fort Hays State 68-47 Thursday night inside Gross Memorial Coliseum.
 
The RiverHawks dropped to 5-11 on the year and 2-8 in the MIAA, while the Tigers improved to 15-1 overall and 9-1 in the league.
 
Sophomore guard Alexis Hill paced the NSU offense with a team-best 12 points. Senior guard Kate Bellamy chipped in six points and a season-high eight rebounds.
 
Northeastern State shot 39.1 percent (18-for-46) from the field, 33.3 percent (5-for-15) from behind the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (6-for-9) at the free-throw line. FHSU shot 31.8 percent (21-for-66) overall, 35.5 percent (11-for-31) from distance and 65.2 percent (15-for-23) at the charity stripe.
 
Jill Faxon led all scorers with 17 points, while Paige Lunsford added 14 points and 13 rebounds. Chelsea Mason needed 21 shots just to get to 12 points (4-for-21), and she added nine boards.
 
Fort Hays State led in rebounds (43-35), assists (13-10), steals (12-5), points in the paint (16-14), points off turnovers (19-4), second-chance points (25-2), fast break points (6-0), bench points (17-10), and fewer turnovers (6-19). NSU led in blocks (3-1).
 
The RiverHawks will stay on the road and will take on Nebraska-Kearney at 2 p.m. Jan. 16 from Health & Sports Center in Kearney, Nebraska.
