RiverHawks fall to Blue Tigers, 59-57

Northeastern State loses narrow contest to Lincoln, Buschmann leads with 17 points

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – The Northeastern State women's basketball team lost to Lincoln 59-57 Saturday afternoon inside the NSU Event Center.
 
The RiverHawks (6-15, 3-12 MIAA) have now lost seven of their last eight games, while the Blue Tigers improved to 8-13 overall and 4-11 in the MIAA.
 
Junior forward Mary Jane Buschmann led all scorers with 17 points. She was 6 of 10 from the field and also added five rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal. Senior Kate Bellamy was 5 of 7 overall and finished with 15 points and five boards.
 
NSU shot 40.4 percent (21-for-52) from the field, 26.1 percent (6-for-23) from behind the 3-point line and 64.3 percent (9-for-14) at the free-throw line. Lincoln shot 35.7 percent (20-for-56) overall, 26.7 percent (8-for-30) from distance and 78.6 percent (11-for-14) at the charity stripe.
 
Zuri Hill led LU with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter Yoakum and Azaria Nave both came off the bench and scored 10 points.
 
Lincoln led in rebounding (39-32), second-chance points (23-5) fast-break points (2-0), and bench points (22-13). NSU led in assists (17-10), blocks (2-0), steals (4-3), points in the paint (28-22), points off turnovers (12-4) and fewer turnovers (10-7).
 
Northeastern State returns to the court with a road game at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 6 against Central Oklahoma.
