The headline: Northeastern State will close a three game home stand with their MIAA opener against Missouri Western State. Since joining the MIAA in the 2012-13 season, the RiverHawks are 3-1 in their first conference game of the season.
Rylie Torrey is headlining NSU with 18.2 points per game which is forth best in the MIAA.
The series: The RiverHawks lead the overall series against Missouri Western 5-4 and on NSU's home floor they are 3-1 overall. In MIAA play, MWSU holds a slight 3-2 advantage in the series.
Last time out for NSU: Rylie Torrey had a team high 20 points but a strong shooting second half by Southwestern Oklahoma allowed for them to rally from 12 points back to beat Northeastern State 84-78 on Saturday afternoon at the NSU Event Center. NSU had three others in double-figures with
Cailyn Long picking up 15 points,
Mary Jane Buschmann had 13 and was a rebound short of a double-double with nine;
Destiny Strange also scored 12 for NSU and added five boards. Northeastern State led in rebounding 21-to-19 at halftime but it would be the Lady Bulldogs controlling the glass in the second half 28-to-14.
Last time out for MWSU: Missouri Western beat William Jewell 61-45 in St. Joseph with Dwanisha Tate scoring a game-high 17 points and the Griffons shooting 36.8-percent from the field. From the arc, MWSU was 13.3-percent on 2-for-15 shooting. Missouri Western forced 17 steals for 23 of their points.
Scouting MWSU: The Griffons have forced a MIAA high 93 turnovers through their seven contests this season while holding teams to about 55 points. Dwahnisha Tate is leading MWSU with 14 points and she is adding four rebounds per game, Sefulu Faavae is averaging over three steals per game and nearly four boards. Missouri Western won the 2015-16 MIAA regular season title and was picked to finish in fifth place in the league's preseason poll that was released prior to the start of the season.
