NSU women host Bearcats, visit Southern Arkansas

The headline:
Saturday's match-up with Northwest Missouri State will feature the top two MIAA scorers with Rylie Torrey's 19.3 points going against the Bearcats' Tanya Meyer who is averaging 21.8 points per game.  The RiverHawks will when travel to Southern Arkansas on Monday to close out their games before Christmas.  Unlike the NSU men's team, the RiverHawks will return to the floor on New Year's Eve at Oklahoma Baptist to wrap up 2016.

The series with NWMSU: NSU has won in each of the previous four meetings with the Bearcats.  In their last meeting at NSU, the RiverHawks won 50-35 in a low scoring contest with Cailyn Long leading all scorers with 14 points.

Last time out for NSU: Northeastern State dominated the final three quarters to smashed an 88-50 win over Bacone on Tuesday evening at the NSU Event Center.  Kylie Looney scored a career high 21 points with Rylie Torrey adding the same number for the RiverHawks.  Tuesday's win snapped a five game skid for Northeastern State and it was their first home victory of the season.  Looney took a game high 13 shots, making eight, with five of them coming from beyond the arc.  Additionally, she had six rebounds, and four assists in the win.

Last time out for NWMSU: The Bearcats surrendered a 12-point halftime lead with Central Missouri scoring 24 points in the fourth quarter to win 61-55 over NWMSU.  Tanya Meyer led NWMSU with 22 points and a career high 17 rebounds in the loss.  The Jennies shot 34.5 percent from the field but got 16 points off of 23 Bearcat turnovers.

Scouting NWMSU: Northwest Missouri State enters into Saturday's contest with the RiverHawks on a five game skid averaging 67.1 points per game.  Tanya Meyer is leads the MIAA in scoring and is averaging a double-double with 10.1 rebounds per game.  Most of the Northwest's offense runs through her with Meyer taking 122 of their 551 shots this season. As a team, the Bearcats average just under 37 rebounds a game but turn the ball over nearly 15 times an outing.

The series with SAU: Northeastern State has won both outings against Southern Arkansas in the Randy Gipson era.  However, it has been 16 years since both teams met and Monday's trip to Magnolia, Ark. will be NSU's first under Gipson.

Last time out for SAU: Southern Arkansas outlasted Philander Smith 63-55 on the road for their second win of the season on Thursday night. Freshman forward Kimberly Crown recorded her first double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.   The Lady Muleriders shot 37.8-percent from the field  but had 27 turnovers in the win. 

Scouting SAU: The Lady Muleriders are coming off of a 19-9 season and was picked seventh entering the 2016-17 year in the Great American Conference.  SAU snapped a four game skid on Thursday to beat NAIA program, Philander Smith, in Little Rock.  Entering their contest with NSU, the Lady Muleriders are averaging just under 60 points a game with Kimberly Crown leading her squad with 11 points and seven boards.  Opposing teams are scoring just over 65 points with SAU holding a +10.9 rebounding margin.
