TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's perfect home record came to a halt on Sunday with Missouri Western taking a 1-0 win at DeLoache Field.

The match up paired two of the second place teams in the MIAA, with both the RiverHawks and Griffons knotted up with a 5-1 record heading into the Sunday showdown.Â

In a largely defensive battle, a goal by Missouri Western off of a save deflection in the 27th minute was the difference.Â

Northeastern State had the edge in shots taken at 9-to-8 but the second half was even at three apiece. The closest NSU would get to tying the contest came in the 58th minute on the foot of
Melissa Giles who hit the far right corner crossbar.

Missouri Western had a 4-to-1 advantage in corner kicks with nether team receiving one in the final 60 minutes of the contest.

Meg Smith a had a pair of saves in front of the net for the RiverHawks who will fall to 11-2 and 5-2 in the MIAA; Missouri Western will take sole possession of second place in the standings with a 6-1 record, and they are 12-2 overall.

Northeastern State continues their home stand on Friday where they will host Fort Hays State at 7 p.m.
