Northeastern State posts fourth straight shutout to down SBU, 6-0

TAHLEQUAH -- Northeastern State earned their fourth shutout in a row in a lopsided 6-0 win at home on Sunday over Southwest Baptist.

The RiverHawks have won seven of their last eight games and goalkeeper Ryan Davis broke a NSU record with his fourth straight shutout.  NSU's previous record was tied three times, and last set in 2014 by Jackson Biles.

Joe Garcia remained blazing hot with a pair of goals on the Bearcats and has four games were he landed a goal which is one short of tying the NSU record.  Presently, Garcia is tied with four others with Trevor Reed the last to convert in four straight contests last season.

Northeastern State would outshoot SBU 25-to-3 with Davis picking up a pair of saves.

Justin Todd opened up the NSU scoring with his first goal of the season on a pass from Aaron Ugbah.  Garcia put the RiverHawks up 2-0 before the half kicking in a shot from 15-yards out following a Southwest Baptist foul.

Out of the locker room, the RiverHawks opened the flood gates with Garcia getting a penalty kick goal in the 47th minute.   Ismael Serratos connected on a header pass from Bailey Weeks four minutes later for his fourth goal of the season and to put NSU up 4-0 on the Bearcats.

Jared Day wrapped up the NSU scoring with a pair of goals in the final 20 minutes, which were career firsts for the freshman from Sachse, Texas.

The six goals on Sunday were a season high and the most by Northeastern State (7-4-0) since their record setting 15-0 win on Oct. 29, 2015 against Southern Nazarene.

In the MIAA championship race, the RiverHawks remain a game back of Fort Hays State with a 3-1-0 record; the two will meet next Sunday in Tahlequah for a noon start.
