ALVA, Okla. – Northeastern State had three players in double-figures and a solid second half gave them a 75-63 win over Southeastern Oklahoma on Saturday evening.
Jamir Andrews led the RiverHawks with 23 points and hit five three-pointers in his second outing in a NSU uniform.
Lucas Antunez had 15 points and
Montre' Williams added 11 for Northeastern State who picked up its first win in the
Mark Downey era.
Andrews carried the NSU offense in the first seven minutes of the contest with 11 straight points. The Savage Storm would pull ahead of the RiverHawks midway through the first half on a 7-2 run to go up 17-13 on NSU. The lead would be the only one of the evening for Southeastern Oklahoma and the RiverHawks scored six unanswered to pull back ahead.
Southeastern Oklahoma stayed in the contest until mid-way through the second half where Northeastern State broke a 46-46 tie with nine straight points.
The RiverHawks shot 24-for-53 (45.3-percent) from the field and landed nine three pointers, Southeastern Oklahoma was 25-for-61 (41-percent) on their side of the floor.
In the rebounding battle, NSU held a 40-to-34 advantage behind 13 rebounds from
Josh Bougher, which was the highest individual total since Keon Littleton had 14 against Washburn on Jan. 24, 2015.
Bougher would finish a point short of a double-double.
Gordon Hill had six points and he added five boards.
Southeastern Oklahoma with the loss to the RiverHawks are now 0-2 to start the season. Northeastern State is 1-1 overall and will return home to host Rogers State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
