PHILIPPI, W.Va. – A goal by #12 Rockhurst in the 16th second of overtime broke a scoreless contest and ended Northeastern State's championship run on Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division II National Quarterfinal.
The RiverHawks were in their second appearance in the Elite Eight and its defense kept them in the contest with Rockhurst launching a season high 26 shots. Senior goalkeeper
Ryan Davis was the MVP on Saturday for the RiverHawks and stopped seven attacks on the net, along with a penalty kick block in the sixth minute.
Northeastern State was limited to six shots on the Hawks with two-shots that were on-goal. In the 53rd minute the RiverHawks put their best chance to go-ahead on Rockhurst on a corner kick from
Joe Garcia.
Ismael Serratos laid down an attack which was grabbed by the Hawks' keeper.
Rockhurst pushed NSU on their side of the field and had a season high ten corner kicks on the RiverHawks, which was double NSU's total.
Davis finished the season with 74 saves in front of the net for the RiverHawks and had a 0.86 goals against average which is the second lowest total in program history.
The win for Rockhurst (16-2-2) will send them to the NCAA Final Four which will be played on Nov. 30 in Kansas City, Mo.
Northeastern State's season ends with a NCAA Central Region Title and a 14-6 overall record.
