Not Since 1994Â
Despite being in-state schools, this will be the first meeting between Northeastern State and Oklahoma Baptist since 1994, and restarting historic series that dates back to the 1924-25 season. Â In 120 contests, the Bison have a 71-49 series lead over Northeastern State, and have won the last four contests. Â NSU's last win over the Bison came in the Jan. 16, 1992 in Tahlequah (91-83) under then head coach Ken Hayes.
The CoachesÂ
Mark Downey was introduced as NSU's tenth men's basketball coach on April 11, 2017 and carries a 206-105 overall head coaching record, with four NCAA Division II Tournament Appearances, and has been named Coach of the Year six times. Â Downey comes to NSU after two seasons at Fort Wayne (NCAA DI) as the program's top assistant on the bench, and has helped the Mastodons to appearances in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) and the NIT, while going 44-23. Â Prior to Fort Wayne, Downey spent the 2014-15 season at Bowling Green where they went 20-12, and he helped direct them into the second round of the CIT.
Quinn Wooldridge (16-41) is in his third season as head coach at Oklahoma Baptist and is its 19th men's basketball head coach.  Since taking the helm, OBU has had two honorable mention All-Conference selections and one Academic All-Conference honoree. A 1999 OBU graduate and 2012 OBU Hall of Fame inductee, Wooldridge played all four years as a Bison, finishing his career as the all-time leader in games played and third all-time in career scoring with 1,886 points.  He also owns OBU's season and career records for made and attempted three-pointers.
Guarding the Arc
After four games the RiverHawks lead the MIAA in three-point defense, holding teams to 24.7 shooting percentage (18-for-74).
The Glass
Northeastern State has had three straight evenings with 40+ rebounds which is something that hasn't happened since the end of the 2009-10 season. Â In rebounding, the RiverHawks are averaging 40.8 per game which is most in the MIAA, with
Josh Bougher leading the team with 8.3 per outing.
Chasing 1,000
NSU senior returner
Montre' Williams is the lone NSU player who has seen action in the past three seasons for the RiverHawks and was an All-MIAA selection last year. Â The senior from Copperas Cove, Texas led the RiverHawks in scoring with 12.3 points per game one year ago and has 818 career points in 85 games played.
