TAHLEQUAH – Four errors came back to bite Northeastern State their surprise home opener on Wednesday as they fell in eleven innings 5-4 to Rogers State.
Wednesday's contest wasn't originally at Rousey Field but with rain throughout Green Country on Tuesday, and Rogers State having scheduled field maintenance forced a flip of the home-and-home series.
Northeastern State planned on using the contest with the Hillcats as a chance to get live action in for the majority if its squad. Nine pitchers went to the mound for the RiverHawks with
Hunter Neal getting the starting nod in the opening frame.Â
Rogers State struck first in the third inning with two outs, NSU conducted a throwing error, and a fielding error that led to a pair of runs.  The Hillcats extended their lead to 3-0 in the next inning on a two out error.
NSU scratched out a run in the fifth on a fielder's choice RBI and pulled in 3-2 on a bases loaded double play in the sixth that allowed the runner from third to score.
Rogers State got an insurance run in the seventh on another two out RBI that was counted as an unearned run before
Michael Rhea hit a RBI single in the bottom frame to get NSU back within one.
Jordan Payne tied the game for the RiverHawks in the eighth inning on a homer to left field. Â
The contest went deadlocked until the 11th where RSU opened the inning with a walk, and on two outs once again they struck with a RBI double for the winning run.
Dakota Woods had three of NSU's eight hits while
Zack Hammock (0-1) was charged for the loss.
Rogers State had five hits against NSU's pitching as they go to 6-2 overall.Â
Northeastern State (2-2) will return to the field to host Winona State for a three game series starting with a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday. Â
