KEARNEY, Neb – An extra 24 hours and had no-effect on Northeastern State and they run-ruled Nebraska-Kearney 15-7 in game one and 9-0 in the nightcap.
Sunday's twin bill was the first time since April 12, 2013 against Washburn that the RiverHawks run-ruled a MIAA foe in a doubleheader.
Weather affected the majority of the MIAA games this last week, Northeastern State was one four programs to get through their contests after waiting a day due to cold weather and snow on Saturday. The RiverHawks are 4-2 within the league with their other two wins coming against Washburn last Tuesday; the Lopers are 0-2 in the MIAA and 1-18 following the losses.
Northeastern State jumped ahead in the opening frame without making contact with the ball.  Jessica Boone reached on an error and advanced to second, she later moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch. Â
In the next frame, NSU opened with back-to-back walks, and Kaleigh Hinkle doubled down the left field line to plate a pair.  Kyla Ibarra added the RiverHawks' third run of the inning on a single to get them ahead 4-0 on the Lopers.
The RiverHawks escaped a bases loaded jam in the home half of the second with no-outs.  UNK hit four straight singles to plate only one run before Jennifer Wolf shut down the next three batters. Â
NSU continued to their scoring in the third with Paige Gann hitting her ninth homer of the year to put them up 6-1.  Ibarra later in the frame scored two more runs with the bases loaded to put Northeastern State up seven on the Lopers.Â
Ryan Martin added to NSU score an inning later with a three run homer to left.
In the fifth, the Lopers prevented being run-ruled for the time being with a double to plate a pair.Â
Northeastern State added four more runs in the sixth after loading the bases with no-outs to push the score to 15-5.   The Lopers would plate two in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't extend the contest.
The RiverHawks had 14 hits with Haley Acrey having three, eight batters collected at-least one against UNK.
Wolf (2-4) went five innings for the win with Mollie Carter throwing in the sixth.Â
The 15 runs scored by NSU was their highest since March 15, 2015.Â
In the night cap it didn't take NSU to capture all the game's momentum.  The RiverHawks rattled off eight runs, all with two-outs on the Lopers in the opening frame.  Northeastern State sent 11 batters to the plate with Kelsey Harmon getting a rare double and single in the frame.  An inning later, Carlee Gann gave NSU its ninth and final run on a single. Â
Taryn Gray (2-3) pitched a four hit complete game shutout.
The RiverHawks had nine hits with Harmon and Paige Gann both having two.Â
Northeastern State (11-12) will return to the field on March 17 at St. Joseph, Mo. to play Minnesota State and Northern State.
