RiverHawks drop midweek contest to UAFS, 8-1

FORT SMITH, Ark. -- A pair of four run innings by UA-Fort Smith handed Northeastern State an 8-1 road loss on Tuesday afternoon.

Northeastern State made their return to the field after a week off.  Unlike the majority of the MIAA who had games postponed, the RiverHawks were scheduled to be idle last weekend.

Fort Smith (11-10) worked ahead of the RiverHawks in the second inning scoring a pair of runs on a single, then adding two more on a bases loaded walk, and a hit by pitch.

The Lions doubled their lead in the fifth by plating two runs on a bases loaded single.  Later with runners on the corners, they scored on a passed ball, picked up their eighth run of the game on a two-out single.

Northeastern State scored their lone run in the eighth with the bases loaded on an infield ground ball out.

NSU batters only had three hits against the Lions with Bryce Davenport having a hit and RBI.

Shayne Warren (1-2) started the contest and went four innings, Daniel Faulk, Zack Hammock, Dustin Berrong, and Zach Poehl also all saw action.

Northeastern State (9-8) will return to MIAA play on Friday to start a three game series with Southwest Baptist.
