ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Northeastern State picked up their second win on Saturday using two runs in the fifth inning to beat Winona State 3-2.
The victory is NSU's third in a row and sends them above .500 with a 14-13 overall record.
Saturday's nightcap was pitching dominate with the RiverHawks only getting three hits on Winona State's starter. However, NSU made those hits count with
Haley Acrey tying the game in the second inning on a home run. Winona State scored the go-ahead run in the next frame off of two errors.
The RiverHawks played small-ball in the fifth with
Carlee Gann starting the inning off with a walk. A sac bunt moved Gann to second before
Jessica Boone put runners on the corner for
Kelsey Harmon who tied the game on an infield ground ball. After a fly out,
Paige Gann hit in what would be the winning RBI up the middle to score Boone home.
Taryn Gray (3-3) tossed her third complete game of the season for the win.
Winona State with the loss to the RiverHawks are 16-6 overall.
Acrey hit her fifth homer of the season and 26th overall for the RiverHawks who will wrap up their crossover with the programs out of the NSIC on Sunday with Minnesota-Duluth at 11 a.m. and then U-Mary 1 p.m.
