TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State erupted with a seven run seventh inning and run-ruled rivals Central Oklahoma 10-0 on a walk-off single by
Dakota Morse on Tuesday afternoon.
The RiverHawks drew seven walks on UCO's pitching staff and had two hits during in that seventh inning outburst.Â
"That's the most complete game we played all year," said head coach
Jake Hendrick. "We had good defense, I thought our approach to the plate was excellent. It's tough to go out there and battle and draw walks one after the other like we did…it's a really good sign that we are seeing the ball well and we are feeling comfortable at the plate."
Not to be forgotten in all of NSU's late scoring was
Shayne Warren (2-2) who tossed a complete game three-hitter, and only one Broncho hitter reached scoring position.Â
"Shayne had a really tremendous performance out there for us today. He was keeping the ball down; he was excellent with his changeup…the thing with him is his breaking ball and if he can throw it for a strike.  He had ten ground outs and four fly outs today and that tells you right there that he is keeping the ball down and being very effective," added Hendrick.
The shutout by Warren was the first for a NSU pitcher this season and the RiverHawks' first against the Bronchos (21-15-1,11-14 MIAA) since the 2013 season.
Northeastern State spread their hits around with seven starters collecting at least one, with everyone reaching base on 11 walks. Morse went 2-for-3 with two runs scored,
Jordan Payne also collected a pair of hits and blasted his tenth homer of the season in the second inning.
The RiverHawks (19-14, 13-9 MIAA) will remain at home to face Emporia State to open a three game series on Thursday at 2 p.m.
