TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State suffered their first shutout of the season as they dropped a 7-0 contest on Friday afternoon to #14 Emporia State.Â
The RiverHawks grounded into five double plays and had four errors against the Hornets.
"Four errors, your just not going to win very many ball games especially when you're playing the fourteenth ranked team in the nation," said head coach
Jake Hendrick. "You got to be clean and it's about taking care of the baseball and doing the little things really well."
Friday's game was a 1-0 ESU lead until the RiverHawks had three fielding errors in the sixth with three walks. The Hornets only had one hit in the frame while plating five runs. Â
Emporia State's (30-8, 19-5 MIAA) seventh run came in the eighth on a two-out triple to right center.
The RiverHawks (19-16, 13-11 MIAA) had six hits with
Dylan Adams going 2-for-4;
Tristan Ridenour's arm was the highlight of the afternoon with three successful pick-offs to first from behind the plate.
Nolan Sturgeon (4-1) was charged with the loss going five innings for NSU.
Zach Parish will be on the hill Northeastern State on Saturday as they will look to prevent the sweep, first pitch is scheduled noon.
