NSU rally cut short by Central Missouri walk-off

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Northeastern State rallied from a four run deficit in the eighth inning but they would fall 9-8 on a walk-off homer by Central Missouri on Monday afternoon.

The loss is the RiverHawks' seventh straight and they will look to regroup on Tuesday (April 25) with their game against Central Oklahoma getting bumped up a day due to weather.

Daniel Faulk made the spot start for NSU with Zach Parish getting bumped to face the Bronchos at Rousey Field.  Faulk went four innings in his second start of the year with a pair of strikeouts.

NSU trailed for the majority of the game with UCM going up four runs until Chad Reibenspies scored in the sixth on a double play ball.   However, the Mules extended their lead in the bottom half of the frame to 6-1.

An inning later, Butch Rea tripled to open the frame, and Zane Takhar drove Rea home to get the score to 6-2.  Reibenspies later homered to right field to plate himself and Takhar to pull the RiverHawks within two runs.

Despite the rally, Central Missouri (29-12, 20-9 MIAA) doubled their lead in the bottom of the seventh to 8-4.

Northeastern State (19-21, 13-16 MIAA) caught up to UCM in the eighth with a four run inning that was highlighted by a Jordan Payne two RBI double to left.

The RiverHawks went down in order in the ninth, and the game looked to be heading into extras but the Mules caught a two-out homer to left to complete the three game sweep.

Northeastern State was out hit 11-to-10, Rea went 2-for-5 with a RBI, he also extended his hitting streak to 24 games.

Dustin Berrong (3-4) went 2 2/3 innings for NSU out of the bullpen, and was charged with the loss.

First pitch against the Bronchos on Tuesday will be at 3 p.m.
