TAHLEQUAH – Friday turned into a tough luck day for the RiverHawks after they dropped a pair of 4-3 home games to Central Missouri.
Â
NSU's hits were limited to seven combined in the doubleheader sweep by the Jennies with
Kaleigh Hinkle scoring the teams three runs in the opener and
Kelsey Harmon doing the same in the night cap.
Â
In the opener, the Jennies (20-20, 9-5 MIAA) pulled ahead in the second inning getting a leadoff single to right field and the next runner dropped a sac bunt to third to put the runner in scoring position. NSU starter
Jennifer Wolf got an out away from a scoreless frame by sitting down the next batter but the Jennies singled to center for the run with two outs to bring in the runner from second.
Â
Northeastern State loaded the bases in the fourth with one out but a line out to first and a quick throw to third caught NSU in an inning ending double play.
Â
Central Missouri caught a break with a pair of NSU errors to load the bases with one. A Jennie single to left plated a run and following a pop up they brought in two more runs on a single to center to go up 4-0 on the RiverHawks. Later on, Hinkle came though off the bench in the sixth for the RiverHawks with two on with a home run to left field to get NSU a run behind the Jennies.
Â
In the seventh, NSU threatened with a leadoff walk, but they hit into a fielder's choice, and then a game ending double play.
Â
Northeastern State left seven on-base and had four hits, with six walks.Â
Haley Acrey was 2-for-2 with a double. Wolf (9-7) tossed a complete game with five strike outs and one earned run given up.
Â
In the nightcap, the RiverHawks were getting one-hit by Central Missouri until the bottom of the seventh.Â
Paige Gann drew a leadoff walk before Acrey kept her nine game hitting streak with a single to left center. After back-to-back pop-ups,
Jess Schuler drew a pinch hit walk to load the bases for Harmon who lined a double to right center to clear the bases.Â
Â
Following a Jennie pitching change,
Ryan Martin drove a ball deep into left but fell two feet short of clearing the fence for the game winner.
Â
Northeastern State had three hits with
Taryn Gray (4-8) going all seven innings, and she struck out two batters.
Â
Northeastern State (20-21, 9-9 MIAA) will return to field on Saturday for a doubleheader at noon against Southwest Baptist. Â
