EDMOND – The was a little bit of déjà vu in the air for the Northeastern State women's soccer program who picked up a critical early season 3-2 road win at Central Oklahoma.
Much like the start of the 2015 season where NSU went through four straight shutouts, the Bronchos ended the RiverHawks clean season in the sixth minute on Friday afternoon. Â Additionally, much like their previous three meetings with Central Oklahoma which were decided by a point, this match was no different.
After playing from behind for the first time this year,
Melissa Giles evened the contest in the 29th minute for the RiverHawks with her 14th
 career goal.Â
The match remained tied for the next 30-minutes until
Paulina Chavez kicked in the eventual game winner at the 60th minute. Chavez's goal was her fourth in five matches for the freshman from Broken Arrow High School.  Northeastern State later picked up extra insurance with
Lexi Blackwell scoring her first career goal in the 71st minute.Â
Central Oklahoma would pull back within one in the 77th minute but posed no additional threat for the RiverHawks in the remaining time.
Northeastern State had a 12-to-7 edge on UCO in shots with the RiverHawks' defense holding the Bronchos to three shots on-goal.  Giles led NSU with four shots, with
Julia Mathis and
Paige Lorenzo both recording a pair.
Friday night's match was a non-conference but in-region contest between the MIAA programs with the RiverHawks moving to 5-0 and Central Oklahoma falling to 1-4.
Northeastern State will be at Missouri Southern State in Joplin, Mo. on Sunday for a 1 p.m. start time.
