TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's
Joe Garcia came up with a late PK goal and an assist to knock off #RV Lindenwood 2-0 on Friday night at DeLoache Field.
Garcia proved to be everywhere offensively for the RiverHawks on Friday with ten of NSU's 15 shots, and seven shots on goal. Northeastern State has not had a player with seven shots on-goal since Sergio Salinas had that same number against Missouri Southern on Oct. 12, 2004. Garcia's ten shots was the most since Bo White had ten at Fort Hays State on Sept. 12, 2012.
James Doyle had the game winner for NSU at the 36-minute mark in the first half with a shot in-front of the net; Garcia and
Ismael Serratos both were involved in the assist.Â
The RiverHawks would miss opportunities in the first half with ten shots, doubling Lindenwood's total.Â
With a close contest, the yellow card would be raised seven times in the second half. A late LWU foul inside the box on Garcia would be the dagger for the RiverHawks with 90 seconds remaining.  Garcia would be awarded a penalty kick which he connected on the left side of the net for the contest's second score.
Friday night's shutout was the first this season for the RiverHawks and goalkeeper
Ryan Davis who had four saves in the win.
Both teams moved to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA.
The RiverHawks will remain at home to host Upper Iowa on Sunday, Oct. 1 at noon.
