TAHLEQUAH – Late scoring by Northeastern State was not enough as they fell 38-14 to Lindenwood at a soggy Doc Wadley Stadium on Saturday. In the fourth quarter,
Nick Thompson caught his second touchdown pass of the season and
Craig Davis returned a kickoff for a touchdown to account for the RiverHawks' scoring. However, it would be too little too late for the RiverHawks who fall to 0-7 overall and MIAA play. The RiverHawks' defense did hold the Lions (3-4, 3-4 MIAA) to a season low 380 yards in the loss.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Jay Baker in his first career start went 8-for-18 for 99 yards, and threw a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
- Baker had 21 of the RiverHawks' 57 rushing attempts.
- Jean Bazile paced the defense with 15 tackles.
- Northeastern State had a season high 258 yards of total offense.
- Half of NSU's 16 first downs were on the ground.
- Northeastern State's defense forced the Lions to punt seven times, a season high, and the most since Sept 24, 2016 against Fort Hays State.
TURNING POINT
Trailing 14-0 into the second half, Lindenwood would lateral the opening kickoff and ran the ball 83 yards for a touchdown.
PERFORMANCES TO HIGHLIGHT
- With his second kickoff return for a touchdown, Davis is now tied for first in NSU's Division II record book. The RiverHawks went 76 weeks in-between kickoff returns for a touchdown, Davis has ran back one in the last two home games.
- Ryheem Brummitt moved his season receiving total to 436 yards, with four caught passes for 75 yards.
COMING UP
The RiverHawks will head to Missouri Southern (0-7, 0-7 MIAA) on Oct. 20 for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
