#20 NSU rallies past Tigers 3-2 in double overtime

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Two early first half Ouachita Baptist goals were not enough to hold #20-ranked Northeastern State down on Friday evening.  The RiverHawks scored two in the second half and got a game winner from Trevor Reed in the second overtime period to win 3-2.

Friday's win sends the RiverHawks to 10-2-1 overall while Ouchita Baptist falls to 5-7-1.  The Reed goals brought his career total up to 34 and it is redshirt-senior's eighth career game winner.

The Tigers struck early on the RiverHawks and found the back of the NSU net in the 13th minute.  Things were hardly settled down following OBU's first goal before they broke through the RiverHawks' defense for their second tally of the half just two minutes later.   Offensively in the first half, the RiverHawks just trailed 8-to-7, while shots on-goal were even at three apiece.

Out of the half, the RiverHawks dominated the offensive side of the field and out-shot the Tigers 17-to-4.  Justin Todd ended the scoreless evening for Northeastern State in the 57th minute and scored his second goal of the season.  Reed later tied the game at 2-2 in the 72nd minute on a pass from Ben Watson.   The RiverHawks nearly got a go-ahead goal from Aaron Ugbah in the 79th minute but his shot hit the post.

After a scoreless first overtime, the RiverHawks found the back of the OBU net just 121 seconds in the second extra period.  Reed on a pass from Watson would end the contest.

In the final 65 minutes, the RiverHawks outshout the Tigers 22-to-7; Todd led NSU with nine overall shots.

Northeastern State will return home on Sunday to host Southwest Baptist in MIAA play at 1 p.m.
