TAHLEQUAH – A second half rally came up short for the RiverHawks in a 72-66 home loss to Dallas Baptist on Saturday evening.
Behind a 16-point effort from
Caleb Smith, Northeastern State dug themselves out of a 17-point deficit to the Patriots. Smith had seven points during a 16-2 run in the second half that saw NSU retake a 52-51 lead with 9:29 left in the contest.
Dallas Baptist reclaimed the lead for the final time on one of their 13 three-pointers on Saturday in the ensuing possession.
Saturday's loss is the first for the RiverHawks (3-2) at home this season in four contests. The Patriots avenged a second half collapse on Tuesday evening at Cameron to move up to 4-2 this season.
Tanner Mouse was the other RiverHawks' player in double digits with 12 points.
D'Angelo Jackson had nine and
Trent Cantrell added eight.
Aaron Givens had 12 of the 44 NSU rebounds on Saturday, which was his season high.
TURNING POINT
Tied at 65-65, the RiverHawks would turn the ball over and miss a layup before Dallas Baptist hit their final of 13 treys to break the stalemate with 57 seconds remaining.
