NSU women fall at Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Northeastern State could not sustain a fast start to the second half and fell 69-53 at No. 6 Central Missouri on Saturday afternoon.  Cailyn Long and Lauren Woods both paced the RiverHawks (9-11, 5-8 MIAA) who dropped their third contest in a row.

The Jennies (19-1, 13-0) led from coast-to-coast to remain undefeated in conference play.

Bailee Eldred was NSU's next highest scorer on Saturday with nine points; Long had12 of her points at the arc with the RiverHawks 7-for-20 as a squad.

Northeastern State trailed by double-digits for the majority of the contest but after falling back 32-22 at the halftime break the RiverHawks scored six unanswered points behind a Tree Brooks jumper and four points from Woods.  Following a UCM free-throw with 7:28 remaining in the third quarter, Alexis Hill nailed a layup to get NSU three points back (33-30) of the Jennies.   The bucket for the RiverHawks was their last in the next four minutes and Central Missouri capitalized on a pair of NSU turnovers to score ten unanswered points.

Free throws aided the Jennies in the third quarter run and they were sent to the line 15 times, while shooting 3-for-17 from the field.  The RiverHawks were called for eight more fouls with 20 and were at the line seven times on Saturday.

Both teams shot around 39 percent from the field with the Jennies holding a 41-to-36 edge on the glass; Hill led the RiverHawks with eight.
