TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --- Northeastern State pitcher
Jonathan Smithey allowed only five hits while striking out five, as the RiverHawks picked up a 7-2 victory over Washburn in MIAA action at Rousey Field here Saturday.

The Northeastern State bats started where it left off from game one of the series. A single from
Erick Espinosa to open the frame, followed by an infield single from
Zane Takhar plated the first RiverHawks run.Â
Oscar Resendez Jr. continued his assault on the Washburn pitching staff, as he tripled and scored on an Ichabod throwing error for a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. Three singles and a walk in the second inning pushed the RiverHawks lead to 5-0
Tristan Ridenour doubled to open the sixth inning and Jaxson Phipps single plated two runs to cap off the 7-3 RiverHawks victory.
Smithey making his third start of the season got the win going six and two thirds allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five to move to 2-0.Â
James Cowell came on in relief and went two inning not allowing a hit, and
Gabriel Murillo came on the ninth to get the final out.
Northeastern State and Washburn will conclude the series with a nine inning affair on Sunday. Game time has been moved up to 10:00 a.m.
