MARYVILLE, MO--- Northeastern State rallied from a three run deficit for an 8-7 victory in the series opener over Northwest Missouri State here Friday. The RiverHawks dropped game two of the series 10-1.
NSU is now 17-14 on the year and 5-3 in MIAA play.
After going 13 innings, throwing over 200 pitches and picking up two losses on Thursday,
Gail Young was back in the circle for the RiverHawks in the opener. Young went all seven innings giving up three earned runs on 11 hits for the victory to improve to 9-5 in the circle.
Kyla Ibarra's two run home run in the sixth inning gave the RiverHawks a 7-6 lead and
Paige Gann belted her eighth home run of the year and 41
st of her career in the seventh to cement the 8-7 game one victory.
Six different RiverHawks collected RBI's in the winning effort.
Haley Acrey's double in the third inning plated two runs and Jessica Schuler's double plated one for a 3-1 lead.
Trailing 5-3 heading into the fourth inning, an
Addison Elbon double and
Sierra Crick's single tied the game at 5-5.
In game two of the day, the RiverHawks held a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning before allowing 10 unanswered runs for 10-1 loss.
Northeastern State will continue MIAA Conference play on March 27 when it travels to take on Washburn. Game one of the doubleheader is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m
