NSU softball sweeps Lincoln

TAHLEQUAH – For the third time season, Northeastern State swept a home MIAA doubleheader by run-ruling Lincoln 8-0 in six innings and then the RiverHawks came from behind to take the nightcap 5-4 on Friday afternoon.

Gail Young (10-8) flirted with a no-hitter in the opener and did not allow a Blue Tiger (5-27, 0-14 MIAA) hit until after the first out in the fifth inning.  All of the RiverHawks' offense came in the final four innings with Jessica Boone hitting a RBI single up the middle with two outs in the sixth to halt the game.

Haley Acrey hit a solo homer in the third and Kyla Ibarra left the park in the fourth two plate two runs.

Paige Gann had three of the RiverHawks' 11 hits with Boone having a three RBI game.

In the nightcap, Northeastern State had to battle from behind early with Lincoln plating two runs in the opening inning.

Following a scoreless frame, the RiverHawks hit two homers in the third with Addison Elbon hitting her first career shot to center.  Later in the inning, Kelsey Harmon blasted a two run shot to right field.  The RiverHawks fourth run of the inning came on a Jess Schuler single through the left side to score Sierra Crick in from third.

The Blue Tigers struck back in the fifth and tied the game at 4-4 on a first pitch single up the middle with the bases loaded.

The tie was short-lived. Harmon ended up being NSU's hero in the bottom half of the inning and doubled in the go-ahead and eventual winning run for a three RBI game.

Elbon was perfect at the plate with three hits.  Sydney Balderrama (10-4) tossed a complete game with four strikeouts.

Northeastern State moves to 20-15 overall and 8-4 in the MIAA.  The RiverHawks will continue their home stand on Saturday with Lindenwood visiting for an 11 a.m. first pitch to the doubleheader.
