TAHLEQUAH – Strong singles play carried the No. 5 ranked RiverHawks to its 43rd straight MIAA win on Friday afternoon besting Washburn 6-3 in Tahlequah.
Northeastern State (11-4, 5-0 MIAA) trailed the contest early with the Ichabods (7-6, 3-3 MIAA) winning on two courts.
Karla Tomaic and
Mayra Jovic were the RiverHawks lone doubles win, taking court-two 8-5.
In singles, the RiverHawks took control of the match and won on all but court-three. No. 41
Mayra Jovic won her first match on court-two 7-5, 6-2 and remains perfect this spring with a 13-0 record. No. 5
Tatjana Stoll won her ninth in a row 6-4, 6-3 in the top-singles spot over No. 62 Alexis Czapinski.
On courts four and five both
Betka Gombarova and
Chantal Nosievici only dropped one game in wins for the RiverHawks.
Northeastern State will play its final home MIAA conference match on Saturday with Emporia State visiting at 9:30 a.m.
