RiverHawks sweep Sunday with wins over Drury and Sioux Falls

JOPLIN, MO--- Paige Gann was 4-5 at the plate leading the RiverHawks to a 6-1 victory over Drury. Delaney Neal's three run blast lifted NSU to a 5-4 win over Sioux Falls on the final day of play at the TMZ Tournament on Sunday.

With the pair of victories, the RiverHawks move to 8-8 on the year.

In the opener, the NSU bats blistered the Drury pitching staff for 14 hits in cruising to a 6-1 victory.  Gann led the RiverHawks offensive attack going 4-5 at the plate with two RBI's, Jessica Shuler was 3-4 with her fourth home run of the year and Kyla Ibarra was 3-4.  In the circle, Gail Young improved to 4-3 on the year allowing one run on six hits striking out three.

NSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame, Sierra Crick doubled to lead off the game, stole third and scored on a Gann single.  Gann would later score on a Jessica Boone fly out.

Drury posted a single run in the third for a 2-1 RiverHawks advantage.

NSU would take it from there; Schuler's homer in the fifth inning stretched the RiverHawks lead to 4-1 and the RiverHawks would add a run in each of the final two frames to capture the 6-1 victory.

In the second game, Neal's three run blast capped off a four run fourth inning as the RiverHawks held off a late rally for a 5-4 victory over Sioux Falls.

Sydney Balderrama (4-3) picked up her second win of the weekend, going six innings allowing two runs on three hits.

NSU could only muster four hits, but made them count.  After the four run fourth inning, the RiverHawks Jessica Boone doubled home Kelsey Harmon for a 5-0 lead after five innings.

Taking the 5-0 lead into the seventh inning, Balderrama gave up her first run and was replaced Sylver Collins.  Collins would go two-thirds giving up three runs and four hits as Sioux Falls the NSU lead to 5-4.  Young replaced Collins to get the final out escape with the 5-4 win.

The RiverHawks will open MIAA action with a pair of home games. Fort Hays State will visit on March 9 and Nebraska-Kearney will be in for a March 10 double header.
